Goose

Goose is a love bug. He is the one that wants to get in our laps each night for snuggles. He always wants all the attention and is very motivated both in the field and on the water.

Duck hunting is his favorite activity and he is all muscle, weighing in at about 70 pounds. A fantastic family dog.

Goose’s Story

In June, 2020, Goose was diagnosed with inflammation of the brain of unknown etiology. The neurologist that treated Goose suspected cancer, but without a biopsy of the brain, which she did not recommend, we could not know for sure. Treatment included many months of chemotherapy and high dose steroids.

We had a β€œlight-bulb” moment when it was time for Goose’s first monthly oral flea and tick medication and his rabies booster after being diagnosed. I called the neurologist to ensure it was okay to give him both. The neurologist said absolutely not. She stated that those medications and vaccines are not safe to give a dog with neurological issues. Since we gave all of our dogs these preventative measures and vaccines, I started to do a lot of research on them.

We no longer give our dogs any oral flea and tick medication, and we very rarely give them the topical versions. We no longer over vaccinate our dogs, and have done many titers to check their antibodies. We also only feed raw now, which has completely changed our dog’s lives for the better.
